As I lay soundly sleeping in my bed, my phone rings and it is my dad… I almost don’t answer because he is 2 hours ahead of me(I lived in California at the time and he lived in OK), and it was a little after 6:00 am. I answered to my dad telling me to get my A** out of bed there was SH*T going on in the world while I slept!! That I needed to turn the TV on and watch the news! Dazed and Confused I get out of bed and turn the TV on no need to ask what channel because every channel had the news of the planes flying into the Twin Towers!
I instantly felt sick and scared! It was like I was frozen sitting there glued to the television not wanting to watch but not being able to take my eyes off the screen! The whole day I was in shock and disbelief. All in all 2,973 people lost their lives in the towers that day, 443 NYC Firefighters bravely went towards their death. 189 also lost their lives at the Pentagon and Flight United 93. A senseless tragedy rocked our nation to it’s core.
In the days after the attack I remember the patriotism, the humanity, and the love that you felt for your country and fellow neighbors that had somehow been lost along the way, it had been re-ignited in everyone! Watching the news this last week, I am taken back 10 years ago… the emotions, the sick knotted stomach, and the feeling of patriotism! I am thankful to live in a country where brave Men and Women risk their lives so that I can make my own choices and live the life that I want to live!! As we remember 9/11, send a prayer of thanks to the Men and Women who risk their lives to protect us no matter what the situation is, whether they are Police, Firefighters, Marines, Army, Navy, National Guard, Coast Guard, and any other branch of service that choose to protect us and our nation… I sincerely THANK YOU!!
