Disney’s fantastical adventure “Oz The Great and Powerful,” directed by Sam Raimi, imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s beloved wizard character. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot—fame and fortune are his for the taking—that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry—Oscar transforms himself not only into the greatwizard but into a better man as well.

My very favorite movie of all time is the Wizard of Oz!! It has also become one of Alex’s favorites!! SO, when I first heard about Oz the Great and Powerful I was beyond EXCITED!!!! We were counting down the days and watching all the clips available!! On the day of the pre-screening we started our Pregaming by watching the original Wizard of Oz! We painted our nails with Opi Oz: The Great and Powerful Mini Lacquers in the “What Wizardry is this” color, Alex put her “ruby slippers” on, and we were off to see the Wizard!! Alex was so EXCITED she was jumping up and down, she couldn’t contain herself! The movie itself was AWESOME, I mean AWESOME!! I loved it, I thought it was funny, suspenseful, and did the original justice! There was just enough reference to the original but not overdone!! As far as the 3D ~ I thought this was the BEST 3D effects I have seen and I am not a big fan of the 3D!! Alex said she LOVED it and really liked the witch, and our favorite was Finley!! I was nervous about taking Alex (who is 3)  it was not really scary (for us), there are some parts that make you jump. If you are wanting to take a younger child my suggestion is to show them all the available clips, and see how they react to the “flying monkeys” and the wicked witch and if they scare easily then I would suggest waiting till they are older!! Overall we give Oz the Great and Powerful two BIG thumbs up!! This will be added to our movie collection as soon as it becomes available 🙂

Check out our shenanigans before seeing Oz!!
