If there’s one thing that people can’t stay away from, it’s a fabulous love story. And Me Before You didn’t fail to deliver. Based on the bestseller written by Jojo Moyes, Me Before You follows the story of Louisa Clark, a funky and colorful girl who takes on the job of being caregiver to Will Traynor. After the motorcycle accident that left Will paralyzed from the neck down, he’s lost the desire to live. That is, until Lou bursts into his life and reopens his eyes to the beauty of living again.

With stars like Emilia Clarke, Sam Claflin, Charles Dance, and Brendan Coyle, Me Before You boasts a talented cast. After all, who wouldn’t want to see Tywin Lannister, Kahleesi, Finnick Odair and Mr. Bates all in one movie? And for every book lover out there, this movie sets us all at ease knowing Jojo Moyes herself wrote the screenplay and kept it as close to the book as possible.

So what sets this tear jerker apart from every other romance out there?

The characters, for one, are beautifully written and realistic. Lou had me wishing I was more like her. And for a girl who loves black, I’m still shocked about how much I keep looking for a pair of her iconic shoes. Lou is the perfect opposite of Will, who is moody and uses sarcasm to hide his pain. As a guy who’s lived his life to the fullest up to his accident, being confined to a wheelchair and unable to do anything without help takes away his sense of self. You can’t not love Will, especially after Lou breaks open his hard shell and unearths the soft romantic he really is.

Secondary characters like Will and Lou’s parents, Lou’s sister Katrina, and Lou’s boyfriend Patrick give Me Before You something other romances have been lacking. All of them add a dose of reality to this love story. Katrina, though supportive, leaves her sister alone to help their family, which is barely scraping by because of the lack of jobs. Patrick does love Lou, but when it comes down to occasionally putting his girlfriend before his triathlon, he simply misses the mark. And even with a beautiful couple like Will and Lou, I couldn’t help but admire and fall in love with both their parent’s commitment to each other and their children.

All in all, Me Before You is a beautiful romance that no one should miss. So get you bumblebee tights on, and your tissues out, and don’t miss this fabulous movie!
