Boozy Chicory Coffee from Butterfly Bayou!
Hey there, Babes!
I spent this weekend BINGING the first two books in Lexi Blake’s Butterfly Bayou series… and I can’t wait to get started on book 3, BAYOU DREAMING with my favorite two characters in the whole series as the hero and heroine!
But maybe more notably, you can’t get through even book one of this series without the mention of chicory coffee! I haven’t had chicory coffee since my last trip to New Orleans and let me tell you, I got a HANKERING for it while reading. After all, what could be better than sipping on a chicory coffee while reading this bayou-inspired series?
Any guesses?
Well, let me TELL you what could be better… sipping on a BOOZY chicory coffee while reading Bayou Dreaming! And that’s what this recipe is!
Now, you will need chicory coffee for this to be authentic… but yes, you could make it with regular coffee (though I would argue, it won’t taste the same!). However, chicory coffee is available on Amazon (and elsewhere)… and there is even a Café Du Monde branded chicory coffee for sale. Chicory coffee also has an interesting history. It was used in Louisiana during the Civil War to ration the limited supplies of coffee to its soldiers. And over the years, the tradition of mixing the spicy/bitter root with coffee beans became a local tradition… a delicious one!
Boozy Chicory Coffee
This is a super easy, super delicious cocktail to make!
Ingredients:
- 4 Cups of Brewed Chicory Coffee (brew it strong, babes!)
- 4-6 Tbsp of Condensed Milk
- 2/3 Cup of Whole Milk
- ½ Cup of orange liquor (I prefer rum-based for this cocktail)
- 1 orange twist for garnish

Combine the coffee, condensed milk, whole milk, and orange liquor and stir well. Chill in the fridge (or for faster results, shake over ice). Pour the coffee cocktail over ice. Rub the rim of your glass with the orange twist, then garnish!
Voila! Enjoy!

New York Times bestselling author Lexi Blake is back with an all-new heartwarming, small-town contemporary romance series set against the spicy southern backdrop of Louisiana’s Butterfly Bayou.
Life in Dallas took a tragic turn for nurse practitioner Lila Daley. In need of a fresh start, she retreats to Papillon, Louisiana, a tiny town on the bayou. Sure she’s greeted by a gator, finds herself in the middle of golf cart wars, and unwittingly adopts a scruffy dog, but Lila remains undaunted. She’s focused on running the town’s medical clinic, but fitting into the quirky community is harder than she imagined.
As a single dad, Sheriff Armie LaVigne embraces routine. But there is nothing routine about the town’s newest resident. Lila is a gorgeous fish out of water and he’s ready to catch her. In fact, in no time at all, Armie knows Lila is the woman for him and he plans to win her heart. But when the past threatens their happiness, Armie will have to decide if he has the courage to trust Lila enough to find a true happily ever after.
