SUMMARY:
THE SPIRIT OF TEXAS – the true story of an immigrant boy born in Scotland who sails to North America with his parents when he was a year and a half old to live first in Canada and then New York City. How he came to Texas at twenty-one and with nothing but a wooden box of carpentry tools built a large family and an even larger ranching operation in West Texas. It gives you an inside look at the epic struggle they had with Indians, outlaws, Mexicans, droughts, floods, pestilence and a thousand other things to build this beautiful but hard-fought life for his family.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

WINSTON pastors Greater Grace Church, a non-denominational, spirit-filled church in Covington. He also oversees an evangelical ministry serving a number of prisons, jails and youth development centers in the north Georgia area. He is the director of Cars for Christ, Manna Ministries (gives food to the needy) and the Shepherd’s House, a residential recovery home helping troubled youth restructure their lives. He is happily married to the love of his life, Donna. She helps with secretarial work, sings with the church praise team and is a great homemaker. Winston says she is the happiest when she has her hands in the dirt. Flowers, shrubs and gardens are her favorite things in life other than loving God.

MY THOUGHTS:
If you are a TEXAN then there is no explaining what pride we have in our state (is there any other state?? – Just kidding!!). I wanted to read this just because of that fact the Texas Pride which is definitely represented in The Spirit of Texas. This is a wonderful read for Texans and history buffs like myself. I loved reading about the rich history of the Menzies Family and the pictures throughout the story are just an added bonus! I recommend this book to others who love to read about history, biographies, and/or Texas!

MY RATING:
  4/5 Hearts: Really Good Read

Disclosure: I received one copy of the book from B&B Media for review purposes only. I was not compensated to write a positive or favorable review. This is Keeping Up With The Rheinlander’s personal opinion.
