SUMMARY:
A little boy is passing by the toy aisle in the grocery store. His eyes light up and his adrenaline starts flowing. His mom can already see where this is headed. “Not this time Honey, we’re here for groceries today.” “BUT, MOM!!”
Children, like this little boy, have an amazing gift of being able to believe in things that aren’t real- myths of all sorts. Might your children believe myths like “No Means Yes”, “Responsibility- What’s That?” , and “Don’t Worry, They’ll Say it Again”? How to Break 10 Common Childhood Myths, is based on a series of seminars, which aid parents and teachers in raising responsible and productive children in a non-threatening way. Parents and educators will be given tips and techniques to regain control in their relationships with their children. Through lighthearted family and classroom anecdotes, a mother/son teaching duo give real life examples of parenting, both good and bad. These anecdotes help bring the advice to life allowing parents to see how to embrace the art of parenting or teaching in a whole new way. It’s a unique blend of Supernanny meets Love and Logic with a touch of The Cosby Show.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR(S):

How to Break 10 Common Childhood Myths was developed by a mother/son teaching duo, Diane and Chad Finkbeiner. Diane has over 40 years of classroom experience ranging from kindergarten through eighth grade and has seen just about everything children are capable of. Chad has been a formal educator since 2006. Prior to this career change, he had been an extreme sports instructor and counselor for nearly a decade. Through their combined teaching experiences, the Finkbeiners identified a critical need: children need help in becoming independent and responsible. Their ultimate goal is to offer parental guidance that will help children become productive members of our society.

MY THOUGHTS:
This is a great resource for any and all parents of children of any ages! I worked with children for 15 years and agree with the teachings of the Finkbeiner’s. I have already implemented a lot of their teachings into my parenting style! Although I had to be reminded of a few like the myth “No Means Yes”… recently I have been guilty of the “FINE” go ahead answer… completely under-minding myself in the process (my child is not even 2)! As parents we are shaping the way our children will act as adults and I think that most parents will agree that we all want a happy, productive “humane” adult, not a selfish, unhappy inhumane adult for a child. I think this book is a must read for parents and educators!! This would be a great gift for new parents or new teachers, or even the seasoned parent or teacher.  We definitely recommend this book to others!!
