Fall For Me by KA Last Tour Button

Thank you, Melissa, for having me at your blog today. I’m very grateful for the wonderful support you provide.

Can you tell the readers a little about yourself?

I’m an Aussie and I live in Sydney, but I’m originally from Western Australia. After high school I earned my Advanced Diploma in graphic design, and I’ve been working in the industry for more than thirteen years. I have two beautiful children (my youngest starts school this year so I no longer have a baby), a wonderful and supportive husband, and a rabbit named Twitch.

Do you write full time?

Unfortunately, no; I would love to be able to write full time, but I have two young children and a part time job, so at the moment it just isn’t possible.

What are 5 fun/interesting facts about you?

I’m half Italian.

I love tea and the colour pink.

I own six pairs of Havaianas.

Inside my head I’m still a teenager, and I love to daydream.

I’d rather drive a 4WD than a sports car.

What are the “must haves” for you when you sit down to write a book?

My laptop, of course! A nice hot cup of tea, some chocolate, background noise—whether it be the TV or my iPod—and the internet. There is always something I need to look up as I’m writing.

What made you decide to become a writer and how old were you?

I was about 31 (I think) and we were on a family holiday. We had to do a bit of driving—which I love as I get to daydream—and an idea just popped into my head. I thought, I could write about that. It ended up being more of a challenge I set for myself. I wanted to see if I could actually write a book, and I never in my wildest dreams thought I’d enjoy it so much.

Who or what was your inspiration for writing Fall For Me?

I took my single idea—a boy walking along a deserted road not knowing who or where he was—and I started asking myself questions about that idea, like what would happen if… I knew nothing about writing a novel, so for the first six months I just wrote everything I could, tried a few things, then realised none of it was working. I pretty much scrapped everything and started from the beginning. It took three months to complete my first draft; then Fall For Me sat in a drawer for several months before I pulled it back out and edited the crap out of it (literally). The original idea isn’t actually in the story, but it will make a featured appearance in the next installment. Fall For Me is now finally being published, and I’ve completed one other novel as well as started several others since.

Do you feel that you can relate to one character in Fall For Me more than any other? And why?

Not really relate to, more like aspire to. Grace is everything I would love to be. Strong, compassionate, witty, intelligent, and she doesn’t take any crap—I was not at all like that in high school. She also has a really cool job!

What do you Love most about writing?

I love getting lost in my imagination. When I’m there, I can make anything happen. There are no limitations or rules apart from the ones I set for myself and my characters. I love the lyrics to Pure Imagination from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. It pretty much sums up how I feel about writing.

There is no life I know

To compare with pure imagination

Living there, you’ll be free
If you truly wish to be

What is your biggest challenge when you write?

I find it hard to stop myself from going back over my work numerous times, and consequently getting nowhere. I need to just let it flow and worry about the other stuff later. I can agonise over 500 words for a whole day sometimes.

Do you have any advice for any other aspiring writers out there?

Just write, and write often. The more you write, the better you get. If you have a story you want to tell, tell it. Set yourself realistic goals and shoot for them. Never give up, and don’t ever let rejection sway your perspective. Write for yourself more than anyone, and don’t hate the haters. There will always be someone who doesn’t like your work, and that’s ok; there will be plenty of other people who do. In this day and age of digital publishing, your dreams are within reach, you just need to make it happen.

What do you do when you are not writing?

The question should be what don’t I do! I look after my two kids. Both will be in school this year, so I’m hoping there will be more time to write. I work part time two days a week as a graphic designer, and I run a crazy busy household. I also love to read and spend time with my friends, especially if it involves drinking tea.

When you’re not writing what kind of books do you like to read?

I love Young Adult fantasy and paranormal romance—anything with vampires and angels in it, but I love witches, warlocks, werewolves, fairies, and any other mystical creature, too. Science fiction is another genre I love, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy being one of my favourites. I’m also a huge Stephen King fan and I have most of his books, which take up a considerable amount of space on my bookshelf.

Since becoming published, what has been your favorite part of the process?

I love to be in control. Self-publishing has been a wild roller coaster ride and a huge learning curve, but I have loved every minute of it. It is immensely satisfying being able to look at the finished product and say, I made that. I’ve pretty much enjoyed every part of the process, but I’d have to say my favourite was designing the cover.

If you can, tell us what is up next for you?

Fall For Me is the first installment of a proposed three part series called The Tate Chronicles, so there is a sequel in the pipe line. Fight For Me is still in the drafting stage, but I’m hoping to be back again by the end of the year. Although, I don’t even know if I can wait that long to find out what happens! I also have another more science fiction type story that needs to be pulled out, dusted off and finished.

Thanks for taking the time to interview me, and for being part of the Fall For Me tour. I am very grateful for your involvement and support.

  2. Upstatemamma

I don't have anything that I make for Halloween. 🙁

  3. TheAngelForever

Have to admit, aside from baked goodies – we have never really made anything special for Halloween. Hoping to change that up as I work on planning a quick party for a project.

  4. Kari

Hmmm…I can't think of a favorite Halloween recipe right now. It's kind of our tradition to have Chili and hot dogs on Halloween.

  5. Menopausal New Mom

There are Halloween recipes??? Other than orange/black icing, I don't know of anything. Guess I'm too busy decorating the outside of the house to get to the stove to cook.Happy Friday!

  6. Auntie E

I think my favorite of old was the finger cookies. Ofcourse I also like the Coconut knuckles. I think I just might make those and post them in my Kitchen site this weekend.
